Building a Nature-Positive Global Bioeconomy: The $30 Trillion Opportunity
Thursday 22 January 2026 07:30-09:00 CET
NATURE ROOM
Valued today at $4–5 trillion annually and projected to reach $30 trillion by 2050, the sustainable global bioeconomy represents a new model of prosperity built on renewable biological resources, turning living systems into engines of sustainable innovation, livelihoods, and resilience.
Brazil’s COP30 leadership and Brazil and South Africa’s G20 presidencies have established political momentum, beginning to scale financing pathways and building the evidence base around the bioeconomy. In parallel, the Government of South Africa and the African Natural Capital Alliance (ANCA) have launched the Africa Bioeconomy Finance Hub as a pan-African platform, building upon existing high-impact initiatives.
This breakfast will consider how aligning policy, finance and data with emerging global frameworks can enhance competitiveness, unlock decarbonized and regenerative growth models and position the bioeconomy as a defining economic opportunity of this century.
